Value - Inspirational Story

Today I'm sharing a great story with you. I have stumbled on this story in the past, and it is a really simplistic, but effective, way to make a point about self-value.

~Author Unknown~

A well known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a crisp $20 bill. In the room of 200 he asked, "who would like this $20 bill?"

Hands starting going up. He said "I am going to give this $20 bill to one of you, but first, let me do this."

He proceeded to crumple the bill up. He then asked, "Who still wants it?" Still then hands were up in the air.

"Well", he replied, "What if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe.

He picked it up, now all crumpled and dirty. "Now, who still wants it?" Still the hands went in the air.

"My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it, because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20."

Many times in our lives we are dropped, crumpled and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make, and the circumstances that come our way.

We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. You are special - don't ever forget it!

I agree, Gary. The $20 bill was still worth its value and the speaker made his point to the audience very easily then in relating it to one’s life. We could take the $20 bill one step further by understanding why everyone alike accepts the bill at face value. The simple answer is because it’s by law that we’re given to believe its assigned value. Will its face value always remain the same? It would appear so, unless it’s somehow legislated by law to be otherwise. Still, life is about change. Isn’t it? On the other hand, it’s best for some things not to change, but to remain a constant, which gives than a sense of shared commonality in security. So no matter life’s security, whether it is change or constancy, it’s joyful knowing and accepting that one thing in life remains the same. It is in the Bible (AV): ‘Heb. 13: 8: Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to-day, and for ever.
